B.C. Forest Service boat, "Cottonwood" Entering Thurston Bay - Sonora Island
View a working boat in the Discovery Islands, north Salish Sea
I’m currently on a seven day sailing trip with friends in this area and am researching historical photos to match with current views.
We moored in Handfield Bay within Thurston Bay Marine Provincial Park for one amazing night. The inner bay was protected and lined with ancient Kwiakah clam gardens, second growth timber, rich sea life plus rock islets and islands to explore.
Slightly north of the ‘official end of the Salish Sea’ here’s a view of a working boat entering Thurston Bay on Sonora Island from Nodales Channel in the Discovery Islands. This image is from the Museum of Campbell River.

Looking up Nodales Channel. This image isn’t an exact line up as I found the ‘then’ image after I randomly shot this one. The lower left land sticking out looks similar to that of the ‘then’ image.
